The revolutionaries passed through Ripley on their way to Nottingham. They famously tried to obtain guns and other weapons from the Butterley site, but were turned away at the gatehouse by George Goodwin, the manager.
This and the painting below showing them at the Cock Hotel (which was an early coaching inn in Ripley) are part of an exhibition of paintings by local artists set up as part of the bicentenary celebrations of the Rising in 2017.
