The Pear Tree Inn, facing on to High Street at the entrance to Malthouse Yard, is first mentioned in 1866 when Levi Hawley was granted a licence, and may well have been the original malthouse premises, as Robert Whysall, the owner of the malthouse, seems to have sold his brickyard and farming equipment in the early 1860s, so probably closed the malthouse then.

The pub was originally a beerhouse, and applied for a licence to sell spirits in 1894. It was refused, but much later granted. The pub was taken over by Hardy’s Kimberley Brewery in 1935. Hardy’s was bought by Greene King in 2006.

The pub was altered and refurbished in 1956 and again in 2020.
